WMSU ILS High School team composed of four juniors and four seniors emerged as Victors in the three national competitions out of 773 participating delegates coming from 32 public and private schools during the 58th Annual National Convention of Children’s Museum and Library, Inc. (CMLI) Junior and Senior High School Members and Teacher-Advisers held last November 17-21, 2016 at Teacher’s Camp, Baguio City.

Among the participating schools all over the country, Western Mindanao State University  was the sole  representative of Zamboanga City and Region 9 which competed against top-performing schools such as De La Salle  University, Claret  School of Quezon  City , Philippine Christian  University, University  of Perpetual Help, School of Saint Anthony, Saint Aquinas University, Colegio de San Agustin, Saint Scholastica University, Leyte  National  High School, and the Philippine Science High School (Western Visayas Campus) to name a few.

The highlight of the event was the various competitions which were divided into 2 categories, namely: the Competitions for Excellence (CfEx) and Competitions for Entertainment (CfEn). The Competitions for Excellence were as follows: Extemporaneous Speaking, Essay Writing, News Writing, and Poetry Writing all both in English and Filipino categories in addition to the Pop Quiz Hotshots, Marketing Speech, Radio Drama, Poster Making with Short Film Making which carried the most highlighted competition among all for it entailed the longest preparation of time and cinematographic skills and artistry shot within the vicinity of the Teacher’s Camp. The Competitions for Entertainment were the following: Solo Singing, OPM Quartet Singing, Hip Hop Dance Contest, Talent Variety Show and Lip Sync battle.

During the awarding ceremony, the WMSU high school delegation comprised of 4 Junior high school students, Assahid Khan J. Sabbi, Rayma T. Jailani, Ma. Venise Nicole S. Gallego, and Jhaynaiza M. Napii and 4  Senior high school students, Chaudhri Ameer T. Jumurin, Beatriz D. Rodriguez, Al-Shahudi A. Tanjilul and Shamy Rasma C. Jailani with the acting stint of Prof. Olga T. Victorio and Prof. Ryan B. Cabangcala (teacher-coaches) bagged the Champion in the Short Film Making competition. The said team, headed by Prof. Ricardo Z. Araneta (school principal), also brought home the bacon after winning the other events, to wit: Beatriz D. Rodriguez – Champion in Lip Sync Battle and in Essay Writing-Filipino category, and Chaudhri Ameer T. Jumurin – Second-Runner Up in Essay Writing-English category.

The said convention  also included the following events: Orientation  and Acquaintance Socials, the Grand Opening Ceremony with the Filipiniana/Cultural Attire, Symposia, Commission Discussions, Literary  Musical, National and Regional Executive Board  Elections, Workshops and Disco Socials  which aimed to develop  the leadership skills as well as to enhance  the talents and skills of the participants. This year’s theme is centered on “CMLI IGNITE: Inspiring Greatness in our Nation’s Integrity through Transformational Leadership and Excellence.”
