Joseph “Sefi” P. Curada, a 2011 graduate of A.B. English of Western Mindanao State University reaped positive responses for his photography works during the Behance Portfolio Reviews held at SM Lanang, Davao City last May 13 to 20.
Sefi was among the young and budding artists below 25 years old who were shortlisted in the field of illustration, graphics design and photography. Participants to the said portfolio review submitted their works online and were screened by professionals and experienced artists. 10 artists per category all over Mindanao were chosen to present their individual works and be reviewed by critics. Some of the participants hailed from General Santos, Cagayan de Oro, Davao, Bukidnon, Surigao del Sur. It is worthy to mention that Sefi was the only participant who qualified from Zamboanga City.
Behance Portfolio Reviews brings artists together at events in cities and towns around the world — organized by members, for members. Attendees to the portfolio review got to present and receive feedback on their work, hear from experienced professionals, and meet different fellow creatives.
The Behance Portfolio Reviews event commenced with a short and inspiring presentation prepared by the host. The second part of the event was the portfolio reviews in which attendees break into small groups to have their work reviewed. Mentors and veterans in each field of discipline gave comments and constructive criticisms on the young artists’ works.
Sefi was awarded with the Best Portfolio out of the 10 young photographers in Mindanao. His work focuses on fashion and portrait photography. “I am beyond ecstatic that my presentation was chosen as the best portfolio from the pool of really promising young photographers from Mindanao. This experience has given me the confidence to do better as a photographer,” the 22-year old lad shared.
Also a former lay-out artist of the WMSU’s campus publication-The University Digest, Sefi is currently connected with the university’s Public Affairs Office as a lay-out artist for the University Bulletin. In his spare time he does stints for photoshoots, event coverages and collaborations with different fashion designers and stylists. (EKEENA O. LIM, WMSU-PUBLIC AFFAIRS OFFICE)
