On January 21, Western Mindanao State University’s Social Hall was packed with hundreds of students from different colleges to heed to the call of the Philippine Navy in the recruitment of highly competent and motivated professionals as ‘guardians of the seas’ for the Naval Force of the country.
Representatives from the Philippine Navy Recruiting Mobile Team (PNRMT) came to Zamboanga City to conduct their provincial recruitment where part of the activity is to hold an information campaign to universities, colleges and training institutions and to administer a series of written examinations to pre-qualify applicants.

Per arrangements made with the PESO office of WMSU, through its manager, Ms. Melanie F. Lear, the information drive pushed through on Wednesday.

WMSU’s Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Ma. Carla A. Ochotorena warmly welcomed the team from the Naval Force in a program held at the Social Hall. She also acknowledged the presence of one of the representatives from the PNMRT, Lt. Marion Ivy A. Escobar who is an alumna of the College of Engineering and Technology of WMSU.

With Lt. Escobar were PO2 Joel C. Provido, Ms. Anabel Mateo, LTJG Jeyson Fulgar, LTJG Tristan R. Saclolo, YNZ Jose A. Dato, Jr. and ASN Divina Gracia G. Hinlo.

The PNMRT annually conducts provincial recruitments to educational institutions throughout the Philippines so that interested applicants may file their applications in their provinces without having the need to go to the Naval Office in Manila.

Applicants who are interested to join the Naval Force must be a natural-born Filipino Citizen, at least 5 feet in height, must be of good moral character with no pending civil or criminal case, single with no child or children support, physically and mentally fit and must pass the AFP Aptitude Battery Test, IQ and special written examinations.

The Philippine Navy (Hukbong Dagat ng Pilipinas) is one of the three main branches of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) that is responsible for the organization, training, maintenance and operation of the naval forces and naval aircraft of the country, providing water-borne support and assistance required by the AFP.
The pre-qualifying written examinations of the PNMRT is scheduled from January 23 to 26 at the Headquarters of the Naval Forces of Western Mindanao at Upper Calarian, Zamboanga City. (AJ Dalugdug – PAO, WMSU)
