119th Founding Anniversary

The Western Mindanao State University commemorated its 119th Founding Anniversary on July 31, 2023. The theme of the celebration, “WMSU in 2023 and Beyond: Spearheading Mobility, Cooperation, and Competition in the Global Context,” underscored the university’s commitment to nurturing international collaboration.

Dr. Ma. Carla A. Ochotorena, the university president, delivered an inspiring address, expressing gratitude to the WMSU community for their unwavering dedication in shaping the university’s identity. She emphasized, “The President cannot do it alone. I need each and every one of you to help me achieve our goals. You are all equally significant and valuable assets to this university.”
The festivities commenced with a Thanksgiving Mass held at the CTE Social Hall, where the university community came together to express gratitude for the university’s rich history and the countless opportunities it has provided.

A highlight of the celebration was a lay forum on HIV and Hepatitis, followed by a medical consultation organized by the College of Medicine. This event demonstrated WMSU’s commitment to the well-being of its community.

The pinnacle of the celebration was the Foundation Day Program where faculty members and administrative staff gathered at the Dr. Juanito A. Bruno Gymnasium to cheer on their representatives for the WMSU Got Talent Competition. Ms. Olga Victorio of the ILS High School Department emerged as the grand winner with her powerful performance of the 1980’s hit song “Help.”

The awarding of the Canvas Painting Contest was also held during the program. The winners were the following: Champion – Kevin D. Grapa of Sindangan, Zamboanga del Norte, 1st runner-up -Mark Jayson B. Domael of Isabela City, Basilan, 2nd runner-up- McDenver Micklaus Manlangit of Sindangan, Zamboanga del Norte and 3rd runner-up – Mimorod C. Banaag of Imelda, Zamboanga Sibugay.
The event not only marked a milestone in the university’s history but also reiterated its commitment to academic excellence, community engagement, and international collaboration.
