A new building is soon to rise for the College of Medicine as Western Mindanao State University (WMSU) conducts groundbreaking and time capsule laying ceremony last February 22, 2023. The P100 million state-of-the-art building will occupy the lot formerly used by the DepEd Satellite Office in Campus B.
The event was graced by CHED Commissioner and WMSU Board of Regents Chairperson-designate Hon. Aldrin A. Darilag along with former and present members of the BOR. Also present were WMSU officials headed by Dr. Ma. Carla A. Ochotorena, University President, local government officials headed by Zamboanga City Mayor John M. Dalipe, and, representatives of and guests from line agencies.
In his message, Hon. Darilag congratulated WMSU as one of the pioneering state universities to offer the Doctor of Medicine program. “This feat is extraordinary considering the very stringent and complicated process involved in securing the permit to operate from CHED,” Hon. Darilag. “As we conduct this groundbreaking ceremony today, may this symbolize the start of the long-standing vision of this institution to deliver quality and accessible medical and higher education in the country,” the commissioner added.
Hon. Darilag added that such milestone is a proof of the cooperation that exists between CHED and state universities and colleges (SUCs) in pursuing its development goals in the service of the community. He even challenged WMSU to ensure that its medical graduates are imbued with spirit of nationalism and public service.
Dr. Ma. Carla A. Ochotorena, University President, took the opportunity to thank the former and present members of the Board of Regents for supporting this endeavor. WMSU is expected to produce medical doctors who are globally competitive yet locally-responsive who will heed the call of public service and render medical stewardship to communities.
