BS Accountancy reaps awards on 3rd ZamPen cup
The Department of Accountancy has brought home another recognition as they were hailed as the overall 2nd Runner-up in the 3rd Zamboanga Peninsula Cup—an academic competition for BS Accountancy students organized by the National Federation of Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants—Western Mindanao Council.
Ateneo de Zamboanga University emerged as the Champion, whilst St. Vincent College (Dipolog City) and WMSU conquered the 1st and 2nd runner-up titles respectively.
Conducted on August 3 and 4 at the Sibugay Grand Plaza Hotel, Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay, WMSU bested four other schools to wit: St. Columban College (Pagadian City), Jose Rizal Memorial State University (Dapitan City), Andres Bonifacio College (Dipolog City), and Dipolog Medical College (Dipolog).
The WMSU delegates were Junior and Senior BS Accountancy students. Anson C. Maarim gained the first and third spot on the Taxation and Business Law categories; Mark Frederick Berza won 2nd Place for Business Law category; and 3rd place for the Management Advisory category was Charen Joy Tabilon.
Seven students, on the other hand, qualified for the final round. They were Emerald T. Alama, Rank 1 (Auditing Theory); Lesli Tejada, Rank 7 (Theory of Accounts), and Rank 5 (Practical Accounting 1); Mariz T. At-At, Rank 10 (Theory of Accounts); Charmaine Montehermoso, Rank 5 (MAS); Sima Hajihil, Rank 6 (Auditing Problem); Cynthia V. Insoy, Rank 9 (Taxation); and Vanessa Jane Montero, Rank 5 (Business Law).
The month-long training of the student-participants was a collaborative effort of the College of Social Sciences-Accountancy Department Head, Dezza S. Mohammad, CPA and the members of the WMSU-Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants, with support from the College Dean, Dr. Rufina M. Cruz. (AJ Dalugdug – PAO/WMSU)
