WMSU qualifies as Delivering HEI for the CHED-SIKAP Grant

The Western Mindanao State University is one of the delivering higher education institutions (HEIs) in the country qualified to implement the Scholarships for Instructors’ Knowledge Advancement Program (SIKAP) after complying with the necessary requirements required by the Commission on Higher Education. A ceremonial signing of the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between CHED and WMSU was held last December 03, 2021 at the WMSU Faculty Lounge. Guests from CHED were Commissioner Hon. Aldrin Arenas Darilag, CHED Region IX Director, Dr. Rody P. Garcia, and other representatives for the Commission. On the other hand, WMSU was represented by it President, Dr. Ma. Carla A. Ochotorena, with the vice presidents, academic deans, and other key officials. The SIKAP grant aims to provide opportunities for Higher Education Institution (HEI) teaching and non-teaching personnel, or even former HEI teaching or non-teaching personnel seeking advanced studies in identified universities and colleges in the Philippines. Successful applicants to the SIKAP Grant are entitled to scholarship privileges for the term when their application was approved by CHED and/or compliance to the terms and conditions of release of scholarship privileges. Grantees are entitled to the actual cost of tuition and other school fees; monthly living allowances, disbursed on a per academic term basis; yearly book and other resources allowance; yearly transportation and communication assistance; and, thesis/ dissertation allowance. As of this writing, WMSU has accommodated 15 grantees, eight (8) of which are enrolled in a master’s degree program while seven (7) are enrolled in a doctorate program. (LMP, WMSU-PAO)
