WMSU forges Alliance with GMA 7 for a multiplatform 2022 Election Coverage
Strongly imbued with a social responsibility to serve the public in significant ways, the Western Mindanao State University has joined GMA 7 in a partnership launched virtually last November 26, 2021 for the upcoming national and local election coverage. The University was represented in this event by the Vice President for Administration and Finance, Dr. Joselito Madroñal. Dubbed as “Dapat Totoo”, the network campaign emphasizes the need to empower voters and to challenge them to seek for the truth in every message they get from various media in this election period. Thus, GMA network chairman and CEO Atty. Felipe Guanzon underscored the importance of working hand-in-hand with various community stakeholders in a collective goal to seek for clean elections despite some challenging issues. “The task in front of us, those who help voters make the right choice is daunting. But our duty is to help empower voters and uphold the truth is worth every effort. As individual institutions and organizations, we each carry a tremendous responsibility. But together we can we will do- what it takes, promote honesty, integrity and truth in the coming elections,” stressed Guazon during the virtual event. Joining in the multisectoral endeavor are leading organizations in the fields of telecommunications, media, education, business law and public service. Representing GMA in the Eleksyon 2022 Partnership Launch were Gozon, GMA president and COO Gilberto R. Duavit Jr., GMA News and Public Affairs Senior Vice-President Marissa L. Flores, RGMA Network Incorporated President Miguel C. Enriquez, GMA New Media President and COO Dennis Augusto L, Caharian, Radio Operations Group first Vice President Glenn F. Allona, GMA Regional TV and Synergy First Vice-President and Head Oliver Victor B. Amoroso, GMA News and Public Affairs Digital Media Senior Assistant Vice-President and GMA News Online Editor-in-chief Jaemark S. Tordecilla, GMA International First Vice-President Joseph Jerome T. Francia, GMA Kapuso Foundation Executive Vice-President and COO Luz Analee E. Catibog.
The roster of external partners was led by Commission on Election Chairman Sheriff M. Abas. Other regional school partners joining the alliance are: Xavier University, Cagayan de Oro City; University of Northern Philippines, University of Luzon, Atene de Naga University; University of nueva Caceres; University of San Carlos, Silliman University, Central Philippine University; University of Saint La Salle Bacolod; Central Mindanao University; Holy Cross of Davao College; and Notre Dame of Dadiangas University. On March 24, 2022, the Western Mindanao State University hosted the GMA Education Forum with the Department of Mass Communication, College of Criminology and the HANDOG (Hands of Goodwill) student organization volunteer center as prime movers. National issues facing the country were tackled through a forum where celebrities shared their individual experiences. The event has stirred engagement of students and faculty to get involve in social and political matters that largely shape their future. In a community where everyone has to show collective will power through an election as a political machinery the University as an educational institution indeed paves the way to a better society.
