The Western Mindanao State University (WMSU) Institute of Computer (ICS) Studies came up with an extension program called the Barangay Information Technology (BIT) literacy program where members of the partnered barangays can avail free IT-related trainings, seminars, and workshops.
In this connection, the ICS together with the Barangay Officials of Sta. Maria signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) last October 17, 2019 at the WMSU Office of the President.
Present in the event were WMSU officials, headed by Dr. Milabel E. Ho, WMSU President, and Dr. Roderick P. Go, Director of ICS and the Barangay officials of Sta. Maria, Hon, Eli B. Angeles, Chairman, and Hon. Ron I. Aballe, Barangay Kagawad.
WMSU and Sta. Maria LGU agreed to capacitate the members of the community to enhance their skills in information literacy in basic security, office productivity tools, e-waste management, basic graphic design, basic web development and digital parenting. Also part of the agreement is to develop various systems for the barangay in response to their vision in automating their business processes.
Other WMSU officials also attended the MOA signing, Dr. Yolanda Alcala, WMSU Board Secretary; Atty. Jules Christian Marcos, University Legal Officer; Atty. Eduardo Sanson, College of Law Dean; Dr, Leila Benito; Engr. Gadmar Belamide, ICS College Secretary; Mr. Salimar Tahil, ICT Extention Coordinators, Mr. John Ed Agustus Escorial, IT department Chair; and faculty members and staff of ICS. (Abdul Aziz U.
