WMSU—The College of Teacher Education (CTEd) held its 4th Research Forum on July 24, 2013 at the CTEd Social Hall. Dubbed “A Forum for Dissemination,” five individually authored researches by CTEd undergraduate and graduate students and faculty were presented with the primary intention of sharing research information to an audience dominated by students currently enrolled in research subjects.

Dr. Edgardo H. Rosales, CTEd Dean, opened the event with the delivery of the welcome remarks and was followed by an inspirational message by Dr. Roberto B. Torres, Vice President for Research, Development and Extension (RDE). Thereafter, Dr. Chona Sarmiento, Dean of the Research, Development and Evaluation Center (RDEC), discussed pertinent updates and issues regarding research and development.

Dr. Avelina A. Pelayo, CTEd Research Director, took charge of screening the pool of research papers submitted and, after determining which of them were at par with research standards, endorsed those shortlisted for presentation.
The forum allowed each of the authors 15 minutes to speak and was immediately followed by a 5-minute open forum to clarify any questions and concerns that surfaced.

Dr. Julieta B. Tendero, Director of the Research Utilization, Publication and Information Dissemination (RUPID), awarded a certificate of participation to each of the authors. Among the preselected five papers, only four papers qualify for presentation in the 2013 Agency In-House Review—an annual activity that sought to identify which of the research presentations from the 13 colleges of the university are qualified for publication in the 2013 WMSU Journal.
CTEd’s official research entries are as follows:

From the Graduate/Faculty category: “Effect of Problem Based Learning (PBL) on Students’ Level of Achievement, Behavior, and Attitude Toward Ecology” by Kent Adnil C. Lao, “Study Habits vis-a-vis Academic Performance of Senior Laboratory High School of the Western Mindanao State Unviersity” by Ericson O. Allieto, and “Dynamics of Secondary Physics Classroom using the Code-Switching” by Sheryl Pangilinan-Ramirez.
From the Undergraduate category: “Sex Education as Perceived by Sophomore Students from Urban and Rural Secondary Schools in the Division of Zamboanga City” by Arvin B. Casimiro.

Those who were able to advance to the university-level research screening and those who played significant roles in the conduct of the forum were awarded with a certificate of recognition and appreciation by Dr. Torres, VP-RDE.
