The International Relations Office (IRO) of the Western Mindanao State University (WMSU), a newly-founded office under the Research, Extension Services and External Linkages (RESEL) department conducted its first ever Quality Management System-ISO 9001:2008 Seminar-Workshop on Wednesday, April 15.

Held at the lobby of the Executive Building, Dr. Mario R. Obra, Jr., director of the IRO spearheaded the event with the help of the whole ISO team consisted of Prof. Claro Potenciano, Mrs. Dezza Mohammad, Prof. Leila Benito, Mr. Kent Adnil Lao, Engr. Oscar Sicat, Mrs. Erlinda Macaso and Ms. Ere Lee Salang.

Quality Management System (QMS) is a collection of processes, policies, procedures and resources which are needed to achieve quality management in an organization. Meanwhile, the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) deals with the requirements that organizations wishing to meet the standards need.

ISO 9001:2008 is used by any organization, large or small, regardless of its field of activity. In fact it is implemented by over one million companies and organizations in over 170 countries.

In effect, QMS-ISO 9001:2008 results to organization’s effective and efficient operation, enhances marketing, improvement of employee motivation, awareness and morale, reduced waste and increased productivity among others.
The seminar-workshop was held in preparation for the university’s ISO accreditation which is done by third party body. The university is gearing towards internationalization of all programs and standards in sync with the ASEAN Integration 2015.
