Before sending off the 2015 candidates for graduation to the real world, the Guidance and Counseling Center (GCC) of Western Mindanao State University sponsored an Employment Forum to gear them up for the challenges of life after graduation especially in scouting for careers.
The set of forums catered to the graduating class of 2015 from all the colleges in the university. Set at the College of Teacher Education’s Social Hall, the forums stretched from February 2 to 6 with the leadership of Mrs. Fini Joy P. Buenafe, OIC-Director of the GCC.
Resource speakers for the forum were various officials from different fields: PSUPT. Aileen E. Arañas (PNP Deputy Chief of RPHRDD, PRO 9), Mrs. Marietta M. Bellotindos (Regional Director of the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration), Mrs. Maria Dolores M. Paredes (Administrative Nutritionist of the Zamboanga City Medical Center), Mr. Ben M. Acana (Community Environment Resources Officer of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources IX), Mr. Edgardo B. Tabal (Chief, Field Operation Division of the Department of Agriculture IX), Mrs. Fe L. Dela Cruz (Human Resources Officer of the Department of Social Welfare and Development), Mr. Ronaldo C. Taghap (Interim Regional Director of the Philippine Statistics Authority), Mr. Jorge B. Duterte (Professional Regulation Assistant of the Professional Regulation Commission), Ms. Mildred D. Dayao (Education Program Supervisor of the Department of Education), and Mr. Makaraya U. Adil, Supervising Labor Employment Officer of Department of Labor and Employment IX).
A total of 1,878 graduating students attended the forum: 115 from the College of Engineering and Technology, 51 from the College of Criminal Justice Education, 142 from the College of Agriculture, 33 from the College of Forestry and Environmental Studies, 186 from the College of Home Economics, 284 from the College of Teacher Education, 62 from the College of Asian and Islamic Studies, 81 from the College of Science and Mathematics, 129 from the College of Social Work and Community Development, 28 from the Curuan ESU, 191 from the College of Liberal Arts, 37 from the College of Architecture, 54 from the College of Physical Education, Recreation and Sports and 485 from the College of Nursing.
The theme of this year’s series of Employment Forums was “Creating a Sustainable Future: Empowering Youth with Better Job Preparation Skills to be Globally Competitive in the ASEAN and Global Setting.”
Guidance Coordinators from the said colleges were also present to introduce the guest speakers for each forum. (AJ Dalugdug – PAO, WMSU)
